Problem: getting in and out of a wetsuit
can be a hassle sometimes, because
the velcro closure on the ankle never
stays open, when youtry to slide
through the leg opening.
Solution: a small Velcro patch on the
outside of the closure flap can quickly
be fixed on the chin and keeps the leg
open for easy entry or exit.
velcro_fix neck
Problem: ion uses the strongest Velcro
type available for all closures.The
disadvantage is that the inside jersey
on the collar often gets damaged by
the neck Velcro closure.
Solution: the neck Velcro flap can
easily be tucked away and fixed on the
inside collar. This avoids damage on
the wetsuit when it is not in use.
Seal_Tite Velcro Closures
for perfect adjustment and sealing, all
Velcro Closures on collar have a
special shape and design with a Velcro
that prevents unintentional opening by
impacts, yet is easy to open and close
with your fingers. Additionally the
Quantum Series has the Velcro
Closures on ankles and arms. The
Jewel series provides the Velcro
Closures on arms.
Glued Blindstich
Application:
this seam technology is most
commonly used for
thicker wetsuits from approx. 5 – 2 mm
thick neoprene which
requires completely waterproof seams.
Gluing:
the edges of of the neoprenen panels
are covered with a highly
adhesive , UV resistant contact glue,
which needs to dry for a few minutes.
Then the glue is applied for a second
time to make itmore sticky.
Assembling:
noe the corresponding parts of the
neoprene edges are put together by
hand and then firmly squeeed with an
electric tool cm by cm to achieve high
tearing strength.
Sewing:
after glueing the seams are stiched on
the inside with a special blind-stitch
sewing machine. A curved needle
pokes through the neoprene layer and
applied an elastic seam on the outside.
Pros:
by unsing this techniqu, the seam id
highly tear proof, elastic and complete
watertight and provides insulation and
comfort.
Cons:
this manufacturing process id highly
comlex and time consuming and
therefore very expensive.
k_type neoprene
this shock absorbing neoprene type is
used for the ION crash_padz to reach
a maximum of protection in stress
areas.
Gate_Keeper
Problem: when you put on a wetsuit
with batwing construction by yourself,
the Water Gate back panel rolls up
inside and makes it hard to grab it
without help.
Solution: A Velcro patch on the upper
part of the batwing makes it possible to
fix the batwing on the neck closure.
This prevents the Water Gate back
panel from rolling up inside and helps
you grabbing it without the help of an
assisting buddy. The Velcro patches of
the batwing and neck closure are now
provided with a red label, so that you
can easily see how to close it.
Tatex_Protectors
all ion wetsuits have protection panels
on the knees with flex zones for
bending.
Meta_Lite Coating
all neoprene panels of ion Neo Shirts
have a Meta_Lite Titanium coating on
the inside for extraordinary wearing
comfort and heat retention.
Contour_Cut
to improve mobility and comfort, all ion
wetsuits now come with a contour cut.
It enhances the flexibility in the collar,
wrist, ellbow, instep and the hollow of
the knee.
n_type neoprene
this new neoprene type is even softer
and provides more stretch than the
s_type neoprene. It’s the most elastic
neoprene on the market and is used
for double lined panels in the collar,
arm, shoulder and armpit area in
quantum, strike and jewel series.
s_type neoprene
ION wetsuits are all completely made of
Sheico’s s_type neoprene which is one
of the most elastic neoprene types on
the market. It’s also very warm and
lightweight due to its specific cell
structure.
Water_Gate
Problem: getting in and out of a wetsuit
can be a hassle sometimes, because
the velcro closure on the ankle never
stays open, when you try to slide
through the leg opening.
Solution: a small Velcro patch on the
outside of the closure flap can quickly
be fixed on the chin and keeps the leg
open for easy entry or exit.
Crash_Padz
the Quantum, Strike and Jewel Series
are provided with Crash_Padz on the
shin to avoid injuries when crashing on
the board edge or fin. Each
Crash_Pad consists of 3mm K_Type
Neoprene stitched on the inside. This
harder neoprene absorbs any impact.
Additionally the rib
area of the Strike Series is equipped
with this feature protecting when
crashing hard on the board or
pressure of the harness.
Slip_Loc Zipperpull
Problem: ordinary back zipperpulls
often slip out of your fingerswhen
pulling upwards.
Solution: a simple but effective folded
ending with a bar tack on the webbing
makes the closing procedure more
convenient.
Flat_Lock Seam
Application:
this seam is commonly used for thinner
wetsuits and
rashguards with a neoprene thickness
of up to 2 – 3 mm which
do not require watertight seams.
Assembling:
the two pieces of neoprene panels are
alinged along the edges and overlap
each other approx. 5mm as they run
through the flat lock sewing machine.
Sewing:
in contrast to the blind stitch, the
needle punctures through the
neoprene layers to the outside, so that
the flat lock seam is visible on the
outside.
Pros:
It is much faster and cheaper to
produce a flat lock wetsuit. Nvertheless
it is very strong and emphaizes the
look of the panel layout.
Cons:
not completely waterproof; not suitable
when heat retention is obligatory
Slip_Loop
all Lycra- and Neoprene tops have a
fine webbing loop on the center of the
hem for fixing the board shorts laces to
prevent slipping up by impact.
triply neoprene
this 3-layer neoprene is only used in
the chest panel of quantum semidry
5/4 and is very popular in triathlon.
The middle layer is perforated with
many holes, which hold air to improve
the heat retention.
Detachable Velcro Leg Loop
all long-leg wetsuits aside from the
Quantum Series are provided with the
Detachable Velcro Leg Loops. If
needed the loop avoids any intrusion
of water by perfect adjustment. In the
unlikely case that the loop releases on
the water it can not get lost due to its
unique construction.
Of course the Velcro Loop can be
removed easily if not needed.
Drain Holes (lower back)
all wetsuits with WaterGates have little
holes on the lower back part. Water
which enters through the back zipper
can leak out easily and keep the back
area dry.
Meta_Lite Glue
for all Quantum, Strike and Jewel
Wetsuits we use reflective Titanium
Glue in the torso panels for improved
heat retention.
Drain Holes (calves)
these holes are also in the calves
which prevent the water from getting
stuck in the legs like a bubble.
Seal_Tite Wrist
All Strike and Jewel LS wetsuits are
equipped with rubber stripes at the
wrists.The thighter and sealed fit
avoids water rushing into your arms.
Neck_Logo
to distinguish the different lines and
styles more easily all wetsuits are
provided with visible neck logos giving
information about the line, style and
thickness of neoprene. Now there is a
different logo for skin and double lined
styles (indicated by DL).
Back Zipper
all ion wetsuits have a solid YKK back
zipper. The top ending is lower than
usual, to provide maximum freedom of
backwards movement of the head.
There is NO additional small Velcro
flap on the top end, because it causes
annoying hassle when undressing.
Instead the special
SealTite Velcro closure is designed to
prevent unintended opening.
UV_Protection
all ion Lycra Tops and Neoprene Tops
are made of 8oz. SpanFlex UV Nylon
Jersey with an extraordinary UPF
rating 35 to 50+ (depending on the
color).
Chest_Logo
on each ion wetsuit the logo is printed
on the left chest side.
Sealed Water_Gate Batwing
ion improved the batwing construction
by applying a new tape on top of the
seam for better water resistance.
Seam_Reinforcements
crucial stress points are reinforced
either with MelcoTape
on the inside or rubber logo patches
on the outside.
Water_Gate_Plus
the Quantum, Strike and Jewel
Semidry 5/4 mm suits have an
additional cuff extension on the
batwing panel worn over the head for
best waterproofness.
Crotch Protection
All ION Wetsuits are equipped with a
double lined crotch panel, to avoid
abrasion from leg straps of seat
harnesses. All Quantum, Onyx, Strike
and Jewel wetsuits thicker than 4,0 mm
are equipped with a special hexagon
coating to avoid windchill at the crotch
area.
Dry_Zip
Premium brand TIZIP zipper to prevent
any water leaking through the zipper.
Latex_Cuff
Super flexible Latex Cuffs on neck,
wrists and ankles to prevent water
leaking into the dry suit.
S_Seal
Highly elastic liquid glue for 100%
water sealing and bomb proof tearing
